May 30, 2013 – On Wednesday, CBS reported that Neil Patrick Harris would host the annual Emmy Awards again. It will be the second time Harris has been the host of the television awards show.
Nina Tassler the CBS Entertainment President said in a prepared statement that Harris was the quintessential host, entertaining, engaging and one of the true showman of today.
The statement continued by saying Harris had a passion for celebrating television, which everyone loved and that CBS was thrilled he was returning to host the broadcast by CBS of the Emmys.
Harris is the star of How I Met Your Mother, a comedy series on CBS and hosted the Emmys in 2009, which was the last time CBS broadcast the television awards show.
Harris is also hosting the Tony Awards this year, which is also being televised by CBS. It will be the fourth time he has hosted that awards show.
Harris released a statement that said he was both excited and honored to be asked to host the Emmy Awards this season. He joked in the statement by saying he would use the same script he is using in the upcoming Tony Awards. The Tonys will be broadcast in June from New York’s Radio City Music Hall.
Harris has won three Emmys in his television career. Two were for his hosting of the Tony Awards and one for Glee, where he made a guest appearance on the show.
The 65th Emmy Awards will be held on September 22 and broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
